Tuition

v     Tuition reserves a student’s exclusive, weekly lesson time and is non-refundable. It does not cover the cost of materials or application fees for exams/festivals. No discounts or credits will be given.

v     Tuition covers weekly lessons (excluding summer lessons), two student events (workshops & piano parties) and two formal recitals each year. This fee takes into account lessons missed due to Christmas & Spring Breaks

v     Tuition is payable on either the 1st or the 15th of each month, September through June. Please discuss your preferred option with the teacher.  Late payments, made after the 20th of the month will result in a $10 late fee.

v     Payments are to be made in the form of post-dated cheques. Cheques for September through June must be submitted to the Studio no later than September 9th, 2006 in order to reserve your studio time.

v     Cheques returned due to NSF will be charged a $25 fee.

Parents are expected to help in the learning process by:

v     Communicating regularly with the teacher in person, via phone or email.

v     Helping the student find a regular practice time, keeping the student accountable to practicing at that time, and keeping the student free of other responsibilities at that time.

v     Keeping distractions (siblings, pets, TV, etc) away from the student during practice.

v     Providing a quality instrument in good repair for the student to practice on.

v     Regularly tuning the piano at least once a year (recommended every six months).

v     Providing quality listening opportunities through radio, recordings and live performances.

v     Attending the formal recitals, held twice a year. Please note: recital attendance is mandatory, and recitals are included in your tuition fees.

v     Praising and encouraging the student in their musical accomplishments.

Missed Lessons Policy
Regular attendance at piano lessons is an issue of responsibility and commitment on the part of the parent and student. Please keep in mind that regular attendance is essential for a student's success.
  • All missed/cancelled lessons require 24hr notice.
  • No tuition credits and/or refunds are given for missed lessons.
  • Group lessons take place whether a student attends class or not. Students missing a group lesson forfeit the lesson.
  • Private students may participate in a "Switch List" that allows you to trade lesson times with another student should you not be able to attend a lesson
  • In the rare case that the Studio cancels a lesson (example: snow storm or illness) students will receive a make-up lesson at a later date.

Practice
Sufficient scheduled practice time of at least 5 days each week is the surest guarantee that your child will experience consistent progress at the piano. And with progress comes motivation and excitement! The quality of the practice is extrememly important. Playing through a piece a set number of times is NOT practicing. Following the practice instructions (either in the assignment book or the student's practice webpage) and working on trouble spots IS quality practice. The practice sessions should be free from household distractions and should be monitored by the parent if the child is in the 4th grade or younger. Failure to practice will seriously hamper a student's progress. Please discuss with Ms. Harris, in private, and concerns you may have regarding practicing.

Summer Session

Unlike the school year schedule, attendance during the Summer Semester is more flexible, allowing for family vacations. Students are strongly encouraged to continue lessons during the summer months, and those who do are given priority in scheduling for the fall. Students who do not participate in summer classes, but wish to reserve a spot in the Studio for the Fall must pay a non-refundable reservation fee of $50.00 no later than July 3rd.
